Play 1

Play 1 was displayed at the Gerrit Rietveld academie’s graduation show in 2018.

Play 1 is an installation that represents the script of a play. This play is a sentence.  

The chosen sentence was “The sound is pretty short”, heard one day during someone’s presentation. The intended meaning being that the cable connected to the speakers was too short. 

The script of Play 1 breaks down each word of that sentence into acts and scenes, where the performer is invited to act out the words. 

The installation is the script, enlarged to human scale. To read through the script, the viewer walks through it. Objects spring out of the paper. Objects that support the movements that the script directs the viewer to perform.
